Merrigum golf

Simon (pictured) and Tash Doherty won the mixed event by 45 points at Merrigum Golf Club’s open 4BBB stableford event on Sturday.

The Kyabram Veterinary Clinic sponsored Merrigum Golf Club’s open 4BBB stableford event on Saturday, which was another fine and mild winter day.

It was great to have Mick McAuliffe representing the Kyabram Veterinary Clinic, probably the longest running sponsorship the club has, dating back to the 1980s at least, if not earlier.

Tash Doherty did a top job creating the theme for the day and organising the prizes, so all was set for a great day of golf.

The men have battled in recent times to post a half decent score, however this week the mixed teams had little difficulty getting close to what might be expected for a four-ball score.

One can assume from this that either the women played very well or that they had a calming influence on their partners which helped their contribution to the score.

Simon and Tash Doherty had the best score of the day and won the mixed event with 45 points.

Outwardly they may have appeared to be a couple in harmony, however apparently they almost came to blows about who was going to score the first three pointer for the day, with Simon being his usual RC self and putting out of turn to snatch the honour.

Unfortunately, due to the smaller field in the mixed event there was only a winner’s prize, but Darryl Johnston and Ina Hogeboom can consider themselves unlucky after posting the second best score of the day, 43 points.

Young Joe Chant and Roger Gillon were the men’s winners with 41 points with Joe having his eye in on the par threes.

He took the prize for closest on the long sixth and did have one or two others for awhile.

Serial prize winner Ash Sanders and Andrew Wood were the runners-up with 40 points.

Other nearest-the-pin winners were Tash Doherty on the ninth and 12th, Wayne Thorson on the 12th for the men and Bill Bray on the 14th.

Thanks again to the Kyabram Veterinary Clinic for their long association with, and support of, Merrigum Golf Club. It has been and is very much appreciated.

There are no results from the pennant, which began on Sunday at Mooroopna where Merrigum took on the home team.

Pennant this week is at Merrigum where we take on Parkland at 10am.

Saturday’s event is stroke for the Privilege Cup and is the fourth round of the Kyabram Tyre Service award and the eclectic.

Also on offer is the Victoria Hotel voucher for nearest second shot on the 11th and the least putts sponsored by Simon and Tash Doherty.
