Merrigum golf

Ever-consistent Cory Berghofer won Merrigum's Privilege Cup on Saturday, despite not playing much golf recently.

Merrigum golfers played a stroke round for the Privilege Cup on Saturday on another cool winter day.

Everyone will surely be looking forward to the warmer weather that is hopefully just around the corner now that we are on the cusp of spring.

Golfers also contested the least putts sponsored by Simon and Tash Doherty and a new initiative, a secret nine sponsored by Bruce Brown.

Cory Berghofer aka ‘The Hof’ doesn’t play often at the moment but when he does he seems to have the consistency that all golfers yearn for.

He won on Saturday with a score of 82-11-71 — one better than his closest rivals on another day when the top three players were clearly more on top of their game than the rest of the field.

Bruce Brown was the runner-up after a round of 82-10-72, however he did have to survive a count-back with Craig Doherty who scored 95-23-72.

They have been three of the more consistent golfers at Merrigum and will be sought after as partners for the upcoming four-balls.

Winner of the secret nine was Cory Berghofer, again on a count-back from Craig Doherty while Bruce Brown took the jackpot on the 12th for nearest-the-pin and the least putts with 27.

This Saturday is 4BBB stableford and in a small change to the syllabus is President’s Day, so come along and show your support for our president who is doing a great job.

On Sunday there is the open 27-hole championship sponsored by Merrigum Lions Club.

Hit-off will be from 8.45am and entries can be made to Bill Bray, phone 58552848.

Post entries will be accepted.
