Merrigum’s division four travelled to Shepparton Park on Saturday and lost by seven shots.
Members found the strong winds and the quick greens challenging but, to its credit, Merrigum won three rinks to gain valuable points.
Joe Chant’s rink of Rob Dennis, Abby Earl and Ron Batt played Lloyd Mawson and had a terrific struggle all day.
Batt led well and is enjoying his new role in the top division.
At the conclusion of ends 12, 16, 19 and 21 the margin was a single shot.
Fortunately Merrigum picked up six shots in the concluding ends to earn a sweet victory.
Wayne Shepherd, Peter Warburton, Greg Pell and Graeme Hubble met G. Sinclair and won by four shots.
They managed to pick up a six and a five which was a big help to their position during the game but at the start of end 23 they were five shots down.
Over the final three ends they gained nine shots which really needs the stewards to be called in.
The result was pleasing for this new combination.
Jim Arthur had Dave Pettifer, Rob Carver and the debutante, Allan Roberts, in his battle against B. Chilcott.
They began badly and trailed by nine shots after five ends.
To their credit they fought back strongly and by end 15 they were all square.
They promptly lost the next end but won the following five ends to give themselves a buffer and held on to win by three shots.
In the last game John Firmer’s rink of Stan Coldwell, John Gilbert, and Barry McMeeken drew N. Mitchelmore and lost by 21 shots.
Their only comment after the game was simple, ‘‘We were out-bowled by a better team’’.
I think that’s enough said.
Division six had a bye.
Our mid-week team travelled to Euroa and gained all but one of the available points.
Carol Firmer and Lee Chant had good wins and Maureen Shepherd managed a draw.
The draw for all club events is on the board.
Please note dates for the completion of each round and I suggest it is a good idea to play the games as soon as possible.
The Thursday working bee is at 9.30am and thanks to all who helped out last week.
We all wish friend and fellow member Chris French a speedy return to the bowling green. Hope you are up and about soon.
The list is up for Victoria Open helpers; please join us to run a successful event for all visitors.
Next board meeting is on Tuesday, November 14 at 3.30pm after the mid-week game.
Carol Firmer is again organising a Christmas hamper and would appreciate any donations.
This is a great help to club funds and Carol does a wonderful job getting it all organised, so please make a donation as soon as possible.
